Funny News: Indiana Jones preview

June 6, 2006: Indiana Jones preview

Lucky us. We caught a glimpse of Lucasarts' next-gen Indiana Jones game. The plot is still a mystery, heck the game isn't scheduled to be released even remotely soon, but we did witness a super cool tech demo at E3 to whet our appetites.

As we've reported before, the game utilizes the Euphoria engine...which promises to advance video game character animations into realms we previously could only dream about.

In the demo we watched, Indy was standing on a cable car that was racing downhill through San Francisco's old-time Chinatown. Villains were coming from everywhere, from inside the cable car and also jumping onto the roof from other cars...

A History of Racing Video Games FunnyGames, June 12, 2006
It all begins with Pole Position. It was 1982 and, along with Mr. And Mrs. Pac Man and the Space Invaders, this seminal arcade racer was a major player in the early days of the video arcade. There were other racing games before it, but Pole Position looked and played like nothing else. The graphics were the clincher. There wasn't much to work with back then, but the Indy cars resembled actual automobiles, and the Fuji racetrack featured billboards, grass fields and majestic mountains rising up from the horizon...oh, and other cars, which weren't a given in early racing games. The biggest difference between the International version of the game and the U.S. counterpart is the "Prepare to qualify" computer...

Mario Kart Wii Reviewed FunnyGames, May 21, 2008
...From a single-player perspective, Mario Kart Wii offers about as much depth has it has in previous entries. Race through a bunch of different tracks and engine levels against AI racers to win new characters, vehicles and tracks. Very straight forward, almost to the point of phoning it in. Considering how much work went into the single-player of Smash Bros Brawl (another primarily multiplayer game), some cutscenes or an overarching story would've gone a long way.

For multiplayer, you can play split screen with up to 4 players, or hop online with one other person and take on folks from around the globe. While playing living people adds to the challenge of the game, Mario Kart really loses something if you're playing against people that aren't on the same couch as you, and the lack of voice chat doesn't help matters much. Though it's there, the cumbersome nature of the online features means that you're probably better off sticking with local games...
