Funny News: PS2: Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus preview
September 5, 2006: PS2: Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus preview...After a variety of lackluster games, Square-Enix must have decided that it was time to try a daring merger. And since they probably had some extra Advent Children FMV lying around, it made sense to dive even deeper into the now eight year-old Final Fantasy VII cash cow. A few tie-ins and cameos later and we have got Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, a first/third-person RPG action mash-up starring Vincent Valentine, a somewhat peripheral character from the original game.
...And after clocking a good ten hours of Dirge, at least four of which were spent watching cutscenes, I'm done with it. Square-Enix makes quality RPGs and pretty FMV, and I hope they are content to bow gracefully out of genres they obviously have little reason to meddle in. Leave the emo-shooters to Dante and just peep Advent Children again if you need a fix.

Review: Burnout: Dominator racing (PS2) FunnyGames, April 10, 2007...This racing game has not changed substantially - you still pilot a car at breakneck speeds through the crowded streets of unnamed cities. You get points for driving recklessly. Weaving through oncoming traffic and drifting around corners builds up boost, which then can be triggered for a scary speed burst...
...Instead of racing, most of the events take the form of challenges: drift for over 9,000 yards, complete a lap in under a minute, take out fifteen cars. These are neat mini games, but here they have almost completely replaced the basic racing game which is rubber-banded to death anyway...

...The game controls are essentially the same as what we've seen since Spider-Man 2. You'll swing through the city on web ropes which are shot and swung from by pressing and holding the R trigger (R2 on the PS3). Releasing the button causes Spidey to let go; press it again while in mid-air and you get another web rope and another swing. It's a very simple mechanic that's worked amazingly well in the past and continues to do so in this game...
...Much like the last game, you'll advance the story by traveling through the city to event markers, each of which is connected to one of the game's many missions. The narrative is far more open-ended this time around, with plenty of Spidey villains not featured in the films (though the geriatric Vulture doesn't show his liver-spotted head for once) and three gangs tearing the city apart, each having its own territories and mission line...
