Now that many real-money online poker sites are starting to close due to federal legislation, many gamers are deciding whether they're in it for the money, or for the thrill of poker itself. The most popular form of poker nowadays is Texas Hold 'Em, and video games and TV shows basedon it are everywhere. And the Xbox 360 can be put on the list of platforms with a Hold 'Em game - Tikgames' Texas Hold 'Em for the Live Arcade has just launched on Microsoft's powerhouse console, and while you'll find the graphics to be anything but impressive, the online play is better. But how much better?...

Sure, the chat system over your headset works for all players at all times, but you're still missing one of three main tools a poker player needs to win: the math, the betting habits of his opponents, and the "tells" those opponents give. Overall, we had a lot of fun with FaceBreaker. The controls are simple and easy to pick up, with each character's personality adding extra appeal to the simplified style of boxing presented in the game. But while it may be simple, we picked up on certain areas where strategy is a must. The most notable area is with FaceBreakers. When you use the first or second tier, you'll drop your FaceBreaker meter back to zero. What that does is knock away a substantial portion of your opponent's health, but you'll, then, need to build it back up all over again for the next special move. This adds a fun risk-reward element to the fighting. You're constantly at odds with your instinct to pummel your opponent as savagely as you can right at that moment, but in the back of your head, you know you can guarantee yourself a victory if you patiently build that FaceBreaker gauge all the way up to the top.

...The game does follow the movie's plot loosely, but you'll find that the missions you need to do are generally less exciting than in the movie due to the rather dull action sequences. From playing as the Autobot Bumblebee whose mission is to protect Mikaela and Sam (and his great-grandfather's glasses that have the encoded location of the "Allspark" on them) to just plain destroying half of a city as a Decepticon, the events in the game do follow the movie but are decidedly more disjointed and often have you doing things repeatedly just so that the overall length of the game is increased...

...Transformers does have a few redeeming moments, like when you get to play as Scorponok, but there are just way too many long stretches of mediocrity for me to be able to recommend this one. The PS3 version looks great in screenshots, but it plays like a budget game and yet still sports the full $59.99 price tag....
