June 12, 2006: Monster Hunter Freedom ReviewMonster Hunter Freedom is a pretty straight port of a Japanese-only PS2 game that came out about a year ago. The basic idea is that you're an up-and-coming warrior looking to cut your teeth on some simple quests. Eventually you'll gain notoriety, going on more advanced adventures, collecting cool new gear and doing some serious hacking and slashing...
...The PSP is a handheld and as such it should play host to games which are quick and easy to pick up and have fun with. Monster Hunter Freedom is simply a case of a poorly chosen port that probably should've stayed on the PS2...and in Japan, for that matter...

Along with the updated name come a brand new engine, new game modes, new weapons, new characters, and plenty more ways to blow up your friends...
...When we last saw Unreal Tournament 2007, it was looking pretty damn slick. Smooth graphics, tons of explosions, nifty new weapons. We had very little qualms with the game. Over the past year, it's clear that a lot more work has gone into the game, as it's looking better than ever...

Finding new sports for Mario Bros to take up is getting seriously tricky. Let's see what out favorite Italian stereotype has left to play, shall we? How about "Mario Angling"? That might be fun, but we'll save that one for the Wii-mote. "Donkey Kong Zorbing"? Nah, too much like Super Monkey Ball. Ok, got it: "Princess Peach Buzkashi Party". See how the word "party" makes it all seem more fun and accessible? ...
...One last problem in the presentation is how much time Super Mario Hoops spends in transition after every basket. It takes a while to load and skip replays, bogging down otherwise quick gameplay. After you've waited through your hundredth highlight, you'll want to just be able to turn replays off. And hey! Guess what? You can't.
But you can always turn on the "rent" option. Super Mario Bros Hoops is a decent, little game that's a bit too decent and way too little. It's good for a laugh or two, but it fails to capture the fast-paced fun factor of previous Mario sports titles. Super Mario Bros Caber Toss, here I come!
