After more than 18 months of anticipation, Crysis is almost here. If all goes according to plan, this highly-awaited first-person shooter game will go gold in a matter of days, meaning that it's finished and headed for duplication and manufacturing.

We could keep going, but you're probably getting a good idea of what the early levels of Crysis are like. There's tons of intense tactical action, but also lots of depth. We could probably replay the opening game levels over and over again, each time using different approaches and methods. If we had more time during our play session, we would have definitely spent a lot more time skulking around in the jungle, sneaking up on North Koreans and dispatching them quietly. As it was, we took a very aggressive, run-and-gun approach due to time limitations. Thankfully, though, with the game coming out in a matter of weeks, we'll have plenty of time soon enough to explore the many possibilities of Crysis.

Many gamers are going to buy Eden Studios' Alone in the Dark and instantly take a liking to the game's all together different approach. The episodic format, the highly stylized cinematic set pieces, the HUD-free presentation, the first/third person gameplay, the 1:1 analog controls for two-handed weapons... there's a lot of forward-thinking stuff to latch on to. However, no matter how enthusiastic the gamer, all will eventually be given pause. Maybe it's a car getting inexplicably lodged in some invisible part of the environment. Maybe it's a needless death because the camera didn't catch up to the action quickly enough. Maybe, just maybe, the game will even crash and take with it any progress you've made in an episode. Here is what you need to know about Tetris Evolution. The game is pretty much exactly the same as its ancient socialist forbear, but now it's dressed up in capitalist clothes that don't match or even fit. The game fails for the same reasons as the Soviet Union, it just couldn't keep up with the times. At least the Soviet Union knew when to quit.

For those of you young who don't remember the finer points of air-raid drills, or for whom the cry Wolverines! only means you live in Michigan - Tetris was the granddaddy of all those puzzle-shape gravity games, like Lumines or Jewel Quest, popular today. Geometrical arrangements of colored blocks descend from the top of the screen and the player must rotate and place them to form solid horizontal lines across the bottom.
