Funny News: Black and White 2 Review

October 25, 2005: Black and White 2 Review

Peter Molyneux's Black and White was universally hailed as an innovative switch-up in gaming prior to its launch, and frustrated critics referred to it as a toy once they'd had a chance to see the depth of the title's gameplay. The design of the sequel, Black and White 2, seems to be a deliberate response to the denouncements leveled at the original game. The result is a more traditional, less open-ended RTS with some identity issues. Despite that, being a god still has as much appeal as it did back in the days of Populous. Read on for impressions of Molyneux's marriage of Nintendogs and Age of Empire: Black and White 2.

BioShock Game Review FunnyGames, September 4, 2007
It's here and in stores! BioShock, the first big game of the second half of 2007, is here on Xbox 360 and PC. I've already reviewed the Xbox 360 version of the game, and from a non-technical standpoint all the great music, action, and RPG choices to make are here here. Unfortunately, so are all the problems that you see in many major PC game releases including crashes, copy protection issues for legitimate buyers, and performance iffiness for computers closer to the minimum spec.

If you do manage to get the game running - and maybe even get those new nVidia drivers or the ATI hotfix installed for a little better performance - you'll find that BioShock, which runs on Unreal Engine 3 - the same technology that powered Gears of War on the 360 - looks and plays great. People who barely meet minimum requirements have found that the game runs well with a bunch of detail turned off (although the best special effects in the game are lost in doing so) and the unique features in the PC version make for a subtly different experience compared to the Xbox 360 port...

Cricket Captain 2008 Review FunnyGames, September 12, 2008
International Stick Cricket Captain 2008 for the PC builds on the changes introduced in last year's version of the game, including the new 3D engine, but ultimately this year's edition is little more than an incremental statistical update. Although these revisions will represent a lot of value to the hardcore statistic fans, the overall experience is still hampered by a slight identity crisis and serves only to cheapen a sport loved by so many...

...One fundamental issue raises its head again in the 2008 edition of ICC. The game straddles the line between giving players the chance to play as stick cricket captain and as a team manager, and the two don't always overlap. The on-field direction of who will bowl and bat, when they'll do it, and how the fieldsmen will be placed is all captain territory. On the other hand, between matches you'll need to manage player training and fitness by spending your allocated number of skill points. ICC '08 has added new coaching options, and whereas previously all you could do was assign generic bowling or batting training to players...
